• Make a conjecture about the properties of a regular polygon that tile the plane - why true?

  • Are these the ONLY ones? explain your reasoning

  • (For the smarty pants): are quadrilaterals with right angles the ONLY quadrilaterals that work? do other triangles work?
do these lead towards deductive reasoning?

Make a conjecture about the properties of the polygons that tessellate.

Why or what is it about the property that allow the polygon to tessellate?[[From induction to deduction#|Edit]]

QUESTIONS and CONCERNS for group:
Is it possible to make the question about the regular polygon more open ended? For example, instead of hoping the kids will come up with conjectures, have a bunch of conjectures written down on magnetic sentence strips. Which ones are true? Why do you think so?

      • Can we do magnetic strips? Or maybe "sticky" notes that we could have them put on a poster sized sheet?
    • Maybe something like: (?)
Regular triangles do not tile the plane.
Regular triangles tile the plane.
Regular quadrilaterals tile the plane.
" " do not " " .
Any polygon with fewer than 9 sides will tile the plane.
" " 7 " " .
